Rubin, delivery is Sun, 6/17. I will cycle the tank BUT I will try to buy filter media with BB from Pacific Aquarium. If not, I will buy $20-$30 worth of tetras that I would like to keep to speed up the cycling. It my distant past I bought a tank, put the filters on including an undergravel filter, checked the ph, put the heater on and bought fish (Not Discus) the next day. From what I remember the fish did not all die off right away. Some may have died. That was in the mid-late 70s so my memory is not perfectly clear.

i woudlnt not gamble with tetras from them. if you're buying fish from Hans, why don't you get some tetras from him? Also, there's this bacteria thing that starts up the process that one of the sponsors is selling on here. why don't you give it a try?

Hans no longer gets cardinals. Too many problems with them, I think he bought wild caught and many die for handling, capture, shipping etc. That bacteria thing sounded good but first I want to see what I can get from my LFS.

Decided to take some pics of mine just a few minutes ago, so that yo can see what they look like. Been trying to breed my group, but nothing as of yet. Maybe some day I get lucky with a few extra. For now they co-exist with some red cherries and other shrimp, and tonight 3 5 week old baby discus.

Will corys actually breed in a Discus tank? I hope so but I really do not know.

Sometimes they will, but the eggs and babies would normally get eaten before you can get to them. I've got a tank just for them once she decides she wants to breed, but as of now she is a no go..

i heard that corys will spawn if you do wc with cooler water, say 10 degree less than your tank, every day until they spawn. good for cories but bad for shrimp and discus

win tropicals on Mott street usually has some nice small discus - they even have some wild heckels now! Also, they have the albino orange finned cory for $6 or $7. Win is in the middle of the block and the other chinese fish store is on the corner - most people don't realize there are 2 on the same block.

I have been to both stores as I can walk there. At Win they have the smallest fish I have ever seen. I did not see the cories on my last visit. I saw the Heckels last time I was there. About $75 each if I remember. Did it say on the tank they are wilds or did someone tell you? I do not know whether they are wild or not.

EVhere, I see you are new on SD. If you live near the Mott St. stores have you been to Pacific on Delancy Street? Great plants, nice Discus and other fish.

If you want to put them with discus, make sure they are Sterais. There's a guy on Aquabid who sells albino sterbai now and then. I bought some last year and I hope they breed. I raise regular sterbais, and they are very prolific.

Hi Martha, I always notice a picture of a Killifish with your postings. Do they go with Discus?

That's Infertile Myrtle. Discus temps are too warm for blue gularis, unfortunately.
