should i feed my discus alive bloodworm daily, 3 times a day ?

i love to see my discus eating, more likely eating bloodworm, so i feed them bloodworm al the time. should i kept doing this ?

Personally and from reading / researching, bloodworms are great, but not a whole lot of nutritional value, therefore it is recommended that a variety of foods be given and not just bloodworms. If your conditioning/trying to get pairs to spawn, then live foods (live blackworms) are know to be great.

Frozen bloodworms have very little nutrition and taste like "candy" to the fish. Once they eat them regularly it is really difficult to get them to eat anything else. Sometimes, people have to starve their discus for a few days to get them to eat something different.
Discus need a variety of foods to be healthy. I give my discus bloodworms about once every week or two as a treat. The best thing you can do is make sure they are getting at least 3 or 4 different foods on a regular basis. Beef heart mix, freeze dried blackworms, tetra color bits, prime reef flakes, etc.

Okay, i have a headache and I just searched some of the 12 pages threads of this forum that pop up under the search when I enter "bloodworm nutritional value"

I can't find anywhere a description of the actual nutritional value of bloodworms or blackworms

protein seems about the same(FD vs FD), so what is in blackworms that isn't in bloodworms? and where is the data to support it?

personally i only feed Als blackworms, my discus love them and they look to me like they have more 'meat' to them vs bloodworms. and I don't plan on changing.

just curious if this is part of current discus keeping culture or evidence based.

Thanks I don't want to start another "what's the best food" war just wanted to know if anybody had hard numbers because I hear that advice so often. Of course good results and experience counts for an awful lot as well.

Was not trying to start anything. You asked for info, I did my best to find what I could in a few minutes of my time. I too feed Al's FDBW on a daily basis as well as other foods but rarely do I feed bloodworms.

I think a larger reason your discus get sick is not doing enough water changes. Discus are extremely picky about water cleanliness. However, you are correct in saying that feeding only 1 type of food will cause problems too.
