Always feed frozen, they pick at them, but I also skim the surface of the water since I have a sump, and I have a strong current 3 times a day that takes it to the sump
Are you all feeding frozen direct from the freezer? I seen in quite a few threads many people hand feeding frozen cubes or pieces but is that good for the fish? Especially with the blood worms and black worms I always notice lots of blood or lots of dirt from them.
Is there a good rule of thumb as to what brands you get that it is ok to feed frozen? I always try and get Hikari brand foods.

Meh, Ive always held it in my hand and rubbed it so they basically thaw before the fish get them. I remember reading in "Discus Health" by Dieter Untergasser that there could be potential digestive problems from still frozen food being given, so I know most recommendations seem to say to thaw before feeding but I dont think many people do so and I havent heard a ton of problems or anything.
At our tank temps, things thaw very quickly.
I feed all mine still frozen.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback.

Hey Jeff,
I feed mine frozen also I don't thaw out anything straight from the freezer to the tank.
My wife names my fish
Frozen food is not good for their stomach or digestive system. I always thaw it before feeding.
I've always just thrown it in frozen.the only time is when I've had new fish or now i have this group of wilds that didnt recognize it as food. The I would defrost in a cup of water and pour in.

Feed frozen.
I have angels, pretty much every one grab one piece.
the only thing still frozen is the last piece. then one fish swallow it.
I didn't see anything wrong so far.
I toss them in frozen or hand feed frozen. Too much flotsam floats around if I let it thaw first and that just ends up being stuff I have to vacuum out later. LOL
I've been doing it this way for over a year now and haven't experienced any digestive problems at all. The stuff thaws super quick in my tank water. Then again, I don't use frozen bloodworms or frozen blackworms so maybe they are different?

120g - 10 discus, 4 cory's, 50+ Cardinals for now... give it a month and it'll change!
Nah, my guess would be in our tank temps we would never see a problem, by the time the fish ingests the food its usually thawed.

I always thaw my beefheart first, but give them the bloodworms frozen.
If women don't find you attractive, may they find you handy.
Andrew Soh was asked this question at one of his talks in Atlanta. He said just feed frozen that by the time the discus get the food off the cube it is already thawed.
