    Default Hernia!

Sunday I notices a painful bulge in my belly button. I did a little research and self diagnosed a hernia. Went to the doctor and they also thought hernia. Next step was an ultra sound. Of course I was skeptical about this. They couldn't get the angle on it they needed. So now I'm waiting to hear back as to what the next step is going to be. Has anyone else ever experienced a umbilical or navel hernia? Bad thing is I just ran out of pain killers lol

ive had an inguinal hernia, being a 25 year old male i guess i handle the pain pretty well. i had a lump for a few months until one day i lifted something heavy and my stomach lining ripped causing the henia to worsen. that ripping was the worst pan of it all and the day after surgery. i still get little annoying aches every now and then from i guess the mesh moving around and maybe scar tissue but ive been fine since.

Sorry none in the area you experienced. Had an inguinal one as well, self diagnosed. Started in bootcamp all the way through further training. Some of the worst pain I've ever been in because I sure wasn't being set back in training anymore...so I pushed on even though you are supposed to avoid heavy lifting, running, jumping, etc. Burned like crazy too. What I did I DON'T recommend. Saw some dumb military docs about it, they kept dismissing it. I left it alone and really have not had any problems with it for the past 5 years. My next checkup I think I'm gonna get it checked just in case, but I never had surgery for it.

Hope you can get it fixed, hernias are not fun no matter where they are.

Sorry to hear that Brandon. From someone who has had a few abdominal surgeries for Hiatal Hernia, it is not fun. I hope you can pull through it buddy.

Knowing you a little and having no experience with hernias the best advice I can give you is to limit yourself to nothing heavier than 12 ouncers until you get it squared away. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

12 ouncers may still be too heavy for him Keith, after all he is a small guy, Lol. He may need to get one of those football game beer hats with the double holders and straws. Then he can drink without lifting anything.

Thanks guys I'm not very patient at the waiting game and doctors. I want to tell them to tell me yes or no how they will or will not fix it. Get it done or shut up. Not much for beating around the bush I guess.

I've had the umbilical hernia twice. The surgery is pretty simple. I had the surgeon place a reinforcing mesh in there and have had no problems since. You'll go home with some Percocet's and a week off work.

    Default Hernia!

I had my operation this summer took longer to prep me and knock me out then it did do the operation. Was very uncomfortable for 2 days but they give you good meds. Off work for a week maybe 2if you do any lifting at your job. I was getting board around the house after 4days. Good reason however to put in an auto water changer if you need an excuse.

12 ouncer will help with the pain as well I more of a rum guy however. Good luck it's not that bad

Must be going around like the flu. My wife, boss, and brother all have had hernias this second half of the year. My wife had the naval hernia and the surgery lasted less then a hour and we were leaving the hospital in four hours. She was back to work within 3 weeks still in a little pain but able to perform her job at work. My wife is a ultra sound tech has been doing it for 15 years so she pretty much did all her own scanning and found it.
