    Default First spawn

After a water change last night, I noticed eggs on a piece of drift wood. Looks like I have at least one female. Mom and Mom or maybe Mom and Dad are diligently fanning eggs. We'll see - I really don't want fry right now.

The eggs made it to morning. I'm sort of hoping they eat them today - but I do have a plan if they end up being viable.

Beautiful fish! I too think a mom and a dad. looks like mom watching the eggs and dad watching her, but hey only a guess, since I could never say with certainty just by seeing a pic.

Jeff - I may take you up on that! I have a long way to go to see if they even make it - but I'll keep you in mind! I have a 55 with some other discus in it, that I can pull the parents into and I can raise the fry for a while in the 29 - but I don't have space for more fish. Haven't had to hatch brine shrimp in years. We'll see how this goes.

At least wait to see if you get wigglers so you can confirm them. Then you can take your time.

Yeah - I'm not counting eggs before they hatch. 2 days with eggs, no white ones, many are bright orange and some are dark orange. The dark unfertilized eggs have collapsed. Still look like a good number of bright orange ones.

We'll see what happens. Could wake up tomorrow and find no eggs.

Quite a few eggs have been eaten. They continue to care for what remains pretty diligently - I suspect nothing will happen with these. Actually pretty good news for me! Not really set up up for breeding here.

All the eggs are gone - good news for me! For their first spawn without being setup up for - they took good care o the eggs. They laid them on a piece of drift wood that was right in the current of the HOB output. Probably tough to fertilize in a current.

Anyway - I'm just growing these two out in order to get them into the main tank. Not looking to breed.

It was fun to watch them though!

Well at least you know you have a possible pair for the future if you decide you may want to breed. Hopefully they won't raise cane in your community tank when they get there.
