Default Please help my bebes, eat. 1st treatment did not fully work.

I looked at MANY other forums regarding internal parasites and tried the treatment of API General's Metro/Prazi but don't know where to go since they are kinda better but still not eating.

    1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?
    • 2 of my 6 discus are not eating. The 2 have been nervous dark and hiding on and off since I got them. The not eating began a week ago, they were dark and hiding, and I noticed one of them had white stringy poop (intestinal parasite?)

    2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).
    • They started out dark and hiding in the corners of the tank, they were still eating therefore I began with the assumption that they were not used to their new home and scared. After the 1st treatment they are no longer dark or in the corner but they are still not eating...

    3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.
    • I did 2 doses (1 treatment) with API General Cure, the only product with metro I could obtain same-day.
•*They are no longer dark or hiding but they are not eating. The other 4 are eating vigorously like the other 4 discus in the tank.

    Tank/Water

    4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.
    • 55 gal
    • Tank has been running 2 months
    • 6 2-3in discus 3 different colors
    • 6 Black neons and 1 rainbow that thinks he's a neon, 3 angelicus botia.

    5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).
    • 50% daily up to 75%

    6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?
    • Bare bottom tank running 2 months

    7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.
I do not age my water. The fish love water changes so I have not felt the need to if the changes make them happy.

    8. Parameters and water source;
•*Water comes from tap, temp is matched to the tank (30 Celsius) ph constant 7.4, no ammonia, no nitrites, no nitrates (It is well cycled)

Note: Water Parameters are important in diagnosing problems within a tank. If you don't own test kits for the following information, you can purchase them, test your parameters and post this info as soon as possible.

    - temp 30 Celcius

    - ph 7.4

    - ammonia reading 0

    - nitrite reading 0

    - nitrate reading 0

What type of water or combinations of water sources do you use? If it is an RO/tap/well water mix, please list percentages in the mix.

    Straight tap treated with Prime

    9. Any new fish, plants or inverts added recently.

    None

    10. Include any pictures or videos you have which shows the symptoms. If you can't add them to this post, please provide a link to them.

Oh and to add, they had ich develop pretty much right after I got them, I treated that with much success but one of them with the current issue got cloudy eye after but that was resolved with water changes GO WATER CHANGES! Im hoping the answer to this could be water changes but...

OH and I am nervous about using salt with the hillstream and angelicus loaches. I have a 10 gal QT I can someone in if needed.

Can you add some pics of the tank and the fish? It would help us to figure out whats going on.

unfortunately, this was not long enough with Metro.. What I would suggest is get pure metro.. and dose for 7-10 days at 250-350 mg/10 gals. large water changes daily and redose with it after each water change.. I'd also take out the cover while you are treating them.. If they can hide they will. I'm guessing you will notice some aggression from the other discus ... Thats probably why they are hiding. IF thats the case... giving them a place to hide isn't going to solve the problem. They will slowly decline.

IF there is aggression, a mesh tank divider may help over time.

Thank you so much! I have been looking everywhere on where to find reputable/decently priced metro.

Jehmco is fine to deal with... but you need to call them up and place it. They are a great company to work with.
