filtration advice for 420+ gallon tank

Hello everyone.

This is my first post here but I have already read a ton of information. The forum is great and I've already learned a lot.

I'm a very experienced reef keeper and I've decided to tear down my 420+ gallon reef tank and conver it to a discus tank. I just have a few quick questions about my filtration plans.

I plan to have a 55 gallon sump and will manage all filtration through that. total water volume will be about 475 gallons. I plan to utilize filter socks on the tank overflow/sump intake and I would change them every couple days if necessary (I have a ton of them). I would like to employ a FSB via a FB 600 reactor. I'd like to consider the addition of some NPX biopellets in with the sand for better nitrate management. I also plan to utilize a TMC vecton long dwell UV sterilizer on the return.

I do plan to do 100 gallon water changes every 2-3 days but cannot do them anymore frequently than that for an extended amount of time. I will also have a few live plants but not enough to significantly contribute to filtration. I absolutely must have a thin 1/2 inch sand bed for aesthetic purposes. I do plan to vacuum 1/2 the sand bed every 1-2 weeks (alternating which end gets vacuumed).

I don't plan on heavy stocking. I will likely have only 12-15 discus total, a few plecos, and maybe a few bottom feeders to stir the sand and clean up uneaten food. I do plan to feed 2-3 times per day and plan to use an autofeeder during the day when I'm gone.

If the tank would have any additional filtration needs I'd likely supplement with passive use of Seachem purgen in the sump.

Just wondering if this seems like an appropriate initial plan or if I'm seriously overlooking something wrong with that filtration plan. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Nice light stocking plan. I don't see anything wrong. I'd say don't worry about purigen. Hell, you could do just poret foam blocks alone in just the sump and be totally fine (KISS approach)... That way you won't burn out if you can't keep up with just maintaining your filtration approach (which is totally fine but personally I don't think you need to do all that... So feel good knowing you can go even simpler).
