Yes, it is silly. Problem is you can not counter all the bad advice. Just too much of it.

Has anyone look at the facebook fish groups? i looked at a couple out of curiosity. I was surprised by a few things.
1. the number or members, thousands and thousands
2. the amount of posting, posts fly by like a metro train
3. the lack of organization of it
4. the BAD advise people get and run with and say thanks for
5. the fact that people ask questions that are in EVERY beginner book, then they go with the first answer they get, and sometimes the answers are wrong. silly wrong with no basis on fact sometimes.
that said i've gleaned a few good tips from them.

The good thing about the Internet is that absolutely anyone can post anything they want.....and the bad thing is that absolutely anyone can post anything they want.... You just have to determine how valid the information is. After following the posts here for a while, you get to know who's advice you can trust.
I'd say Simply is a exceptional example of what a hobbyist board should be. i don't see too much insanity, if i do, then someone(s) corrects it.
the exchange that was the biggest eye roller went something like
question: how long will it take to cycle my new tank
Answer: that looks like a small tank, couple days should do it
response: great thanks
