Oh dear me... what have I done? Alls I did was put a wild Green discus and Red White domestic together and look at what they went and did. Oh the shame of it all! and yet so beautiful!

I have no problem at all with that cross. You know you'll have a blast seeing how the kids develop.

Great photo! Actually curious what this will turn out like.

I wonder if you'll see peppering in some of the offspring. Your Red White has a partial red eye and seems to have a few spots of pepper on the nose.

I hope they do well and give me some answers as well as to how they will look. Summer time is real hard for me to take care of fry between vacations and trips with the kids, camping and gardening. I almost split them until winter but they were so adamant that they raise fry I decided to let them try.

Very curious on the outcome with the fry Al. Seems like an unlikely pair but very cool.

Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
I agree Pat! Worst case scenario is they have given me some incredible photo opportunities. The contrast between the wild green and the domestic Red white is striking and when you add in the fry connecting the differences... The images say alot and I could not pass it up! Hope to take more as they age, but have to be careful. The parents are extremely protective and get very agitated when I mess with the tank.

Al, how did you get such awesome images? I need to return to photographing fish and could use some hints.

Thank you Pat, I pretty much used the same technique as I wrote about here... http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...sh-Photo-Guide It was actually the same gear except I used my pentax k3 instead of my k20D. Either would have worked. Pretty much any DSLR used with some sort of off camera speed lite/or in this case old school cheapo flash would work. Then its just a little trial and error to dial in the right exposure.
The hardest part is the Black. It shows all the specs and food floating so it takes a bit of work to remove that stuff. Darktable and Gimp did the job well. I'm sure most photo editting software could have. Theres not much PP done..its more the time consuming spot removal.

Hard to tell you yet rick... but Theres at least one group that very pale and has a distinct dark patch on the forehead. Reminds me of a Ghost or Calico. The other looks '"wild type". I will know more as they grow,
You can see the two types here...
