Hello, in my part of the US I can not find beefheart .All I can find is a 60lb case and they would order only if I bought the case. That is way to much for me and my freezer. So I opted for veal, not a cheap choice but I feed twice a week and do not have large collection of fish.The meat is very soft and rich in all the good stuff, like in beefheart. Me and my fellow fish friend tried this and is very clean to beefheart. Also everybody adds all these vitamins and other stuff to the recipe. Just a thought when I go th LFS I always look at the reptiles too. As I look around I see these different reptile vitamin suppliments.I just read the label and see the WIDE variety of vitamins and other stuff in them for reptiles. Fairly cheap also. I do not even want suggest doing but, could this be something to add to a beefheart recipe? I would love to hear your opinions on this

What part of the country you live in? No Walmart?
Walmart sells it in easy to clean strips.
Not all of them have the full food sections.
I have to time my purchase with going to that area.
Have you asked your butcher at your grocery stores?
They can order it for you.
Unless you live in real remote part of the country it is obtainable.

As far as the vitamins go I prefer buying my own so I control exactly what they are receiving.
I go to supplement stores that have high turn over of product in order to buy the most fresh product available.

I live in the surrounding area of Pitts.PA .I have WalMarts all around me. I even asked the help and they look at me like I am crazy. They have other weird parts of cow ,but no beefheart. I tried different stores like the Kosher butcher and asian stores down by the city. The only thing I found is a neighbor hood butcher shop that was willing to order a whole case only for me. A case is way to big for me. Every time me and the wife go out to a grocery store or the like I still check.

How many fish do you have? I picked up a 50# case back in Aug. 07; once you trim out all the fat and veins your left with about half of just pure red meat. Grind it a couple times. Then take about a cup/gallon ziploc bag. Roll it flat wit a rolling pin to make it thin enough to break and to get the air out. Stack it up in your freezer. BTW, you can always sell the stuff at your local aquarium club to other cichlid geeks .

I'd never count on the help there unless they were the butcher.
They are very hard to find. Never where you expect them.
Next time you go see if you can talk to a butcher instead.

Also try your grocery store chains. Ask the butcher to order you some.
Two different chains here were able to do that.

I like Walmarts better as they are cut nice for easy cleaning.

Do you have a China Town around or a Chinese Supermarket around that sells meat? You can probably buy one there for cheap.

moik, check the mexican markets . They handle beefheart.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried several different ethnic stores.I am having my other half try the country butcher where she rides horses. It is pretty much country and hopefully they will have it or know a place to get it. I do not know why I am having such a difficult time with this.

you can find beef heart in sack & save stores.
walmart rarly has it.

Winco but I dont think there is one in your neck of the woods. Maybe you could order from them?
