This is a real newbie question perhaps.

What is the meaning of F1 or F2 while refering to discus?

"F" refers to filial... it is an indication as to what generation your fish are. There is a more detailed explanation here:

Hi, It can mean two things depending on if you are talking about domestic or wild fish.

With wild fish, F0 means wild caught, F1, first generation from wild, ect. This pretains to fish of a simialr collection location and of the same species.
If crossing two different species or subspecies (green cross blue, heckel cross brown or any wild fish with a domestic fish)and producing a hybrid, F1 is the first generation cross which usually produces all fish that look similar(same phenotype), The F2 generation produces fish with different phenotypes and expresses recessive genes, thus you get a mixture of different looking fish, This is how new strains are produced. You then back cross fish that look the same for several generations until you fix the strain.
