Use a white acrylic tank sponge. The blue glass ones work okay too, but may rough them up a little. Blue ones work better for removing algae.
Whats the best way to clean tera cotta breeding cones without scratching them up?

I pulled some from about 5-7 years ago and they are a little dirty - should I boil them first? Would they be able to be boiled? Or do you this just a good scrubbing is fine?
Scrub them first just to get anything off of them. Then maybe simmer them just to remove some of the smell and anything else that may have been absorbed while they dried out.

Maybe bake them after I wash them?
Might crack them. Don't know myself.

just bleach them for about an hour, rinse well and air dry.

For real - its that simple? It won't soak in the bleach?
What is this cleaning of cones you speak of?

I want to clean off some of my older cones. I went to buy new ones and they got expensive and I always like the tera cotta ones anyway. I have a box of them but I want to basicly clean and sterilize them before I use them.
Just trying to make a joke that dosent translate well in type.Yeah,go for the bleach. The main thing is the chlorine,it will evaporate.thats why Rick said all you have to do is air dry.

I have boiled them. I have wet them and put in old microwave or I guess you could put in micro wavable container. I have soaked in peroxide then rinse and bleach also works.
