What kind of tricks does the tricky pair do?
Are they the same strain?
You may want to use dummy eggs.

Has anyone tried to trick their discus by swapping eggs between a good pair and tricky pair?
I have two pairs who have spawned on the same day, both on an identical breeding cone. Could I be tricky and just swap the breeding cones with an egg guard so they can’t eat them, them remove the guard at wiggler stage? Or is that getting too tricky?
Is a sad day when you ask yourself “can I outsmart a fish” and aren’t sure of the answer!

Usual tricks - trapeze, lion taming etc.
But the main trick is eating fry. They are different strains, one can raise fry successfully and one can’t, eat them at free swimming every time. So I was thinking that the clever pair can raise the eggs of the tricky pair? Do you think they’d notice they don’t have the same eggs?
To for it. They'll never know the difference.

I haven't swapped eggs before, but I had a pair that fostered anything even when they didn't have their own current spawn.

Ok, so I guess you want the good pair to babysite the tricky pair's fry, yes they can but
not always if they are different strains. The
color of Pigeonblood and Albino fry are
lighter in color than Turoquise so the good
pair may or may not want to care for the fry.
Its worth the try.

What pair strains are you working with?
