I like the blue faced Red Brown. It would be nice if the two paired up.

Your Altums are so beautiful they almost make me pee my pants.

    Lol! Thank you.

I have had the F1 pair spawn numerous times but nothing ever comes of it. The eggs are fertilized; but calcify. I probably need to soften the water to get them to actually make it.

Wow Barb, your bb tank looks so lush. Nice tank and fish.
I also like the blue face brown discus. I envy people who can do healthy planted discus tanks. Very nice.

Thank you Patty. I love planted tanks, but my discus only get plants tied onto wood. Gravel scares me. I want my discus tank only BB so I can get all the waste out daily. But I also envy those who can manage it with substrate and keep their discus healthy.

I’m afraid of gravel too. I tried sand and I ended up tossing it too. I would do a background like yours for that lush look, but my tank is a room divider so that’s out. I just ordered some large pieces of manzanita wood from Burlworks and I’m pretty excited. I might attach a couple plants for aesthetics since it’s in my living room. I’ll post a pic when I get it in the tank.

I would never do gravel for juvenile or sub-adult discus; but, for the adults, it is not a problem.
I do 2-75% water changes weekly, vacuuming gravel well each time.
I have an 8 inch Blue Phantom that makes short work of any of the food that falls to the bottom of the tank as well.
The plants are helpful in taking up nutrients from water column as well.

This tank is in transition atm. It typically has just one pair of Stendker tefe's discus, the pleco, and some green neons and rummy nose tetras.
I am doing some planting in the 30 gallon that the Alenquer pair is normally housed- they will go back to this tank this weekend.
The Altums will get moved to the 180 when get a little more bulk on them.

its amazing to me how well Altums and discus get along with one another. The Altum juveniles follow the discus around ( they are so curious anyways) as if they are the same species.
At night, when the lights go off, they all huddle together among the discus.
    A symbiotic relationship? Maybe.

This is the 30 gallon that the Alenquer pair is in:

Beautiful @Warblad79 ! Both of them. Did you get fry from this pair?

I just ordered a 6 inch Heckel Cross from Kenny's last shipment. I was hoping to breed it with one of my F1 Alenquers.

I'm trying to get some decent batch but unfortunately the male started eating the fry. It seems like the male wants to breed again

I am in Elk Grove, Ca, and make trips to San Francisco 3x weekly. If you ever get some fry and want to sell them, I would gladly pay to get some fry from those two.

What a gorgeous tank! I would love a tank like that and I do 80% every other day with sand, wood and cories and they still got sick. I’ve been scared to try it again. Your fish look so healthy and happy. I’m jealous that I have to settle for healthy.
You’ve got it all. Very impressive!
