Heres a primer on shipping...

Hi Sanjay,
No commercial liscence is needed to ship discus in the USA...people do it all the time and the packing and shipping isnt that hard to learn.
If you do this as a business you should follow all your states selling and tax reporting requirements as any other business must. Depending on where you live you may need a liscense to operate a hatchery though and buy and sell tropical fish. Zoning in your town may also be an issue but thats really going to vary.

Thanks Al ! I'm not looking towards a business of this, buy and sell is also out of my interest. Only want to ship when I want to sell some special kind of strains that I'm working on, will be nice to make some money to keep my projects going
You are awesome Al ! that is well written and detailed. I will soon try to sell here on simply will get membership here. Worth a try maybe
Sanjay where do you live in the US?
Thank you for this thread ! Amazing to see the growth rate for these bubs
I am currently planning on raising a batch of fry who is feeding off the parents
Can you please share what have you been feeding these guys from day1 for the ones you have raised and the ones who came for the melon pair?
Thank you
Thank you Charaf!
The ones I raised artificially, I fed them live bbs from day 1(free swimming). Trick is to add a lot of bbs so they run into them(oh! don't forget to wash the salts off the bbs with fresh water).
For the melon pair, I let the parents take care of them for 2 weeks and then moved them to a tiny tank and fed them bbs also fed them fry food from Gold Coast Aquatics.
Closing to 3 month here. Quick update on few of the melons and Curipera Cross fries-

Looking great Sanjay. How many melons do you have? Are you seeing any peppering? Still wanna use me as a crash test dummy for shipping?
Thanks Daniel !
Barely 4-5 fish showed very little peppering on top of their mouth, which looked something that might go away as it grows.
Someone locally here bought all my fish and wanted to sell them online soon. Let me know if you want to reach to him.
Pictures above are some of the fish I saved for myself Very few fish showed potential of turning yellow, mostly all looked like they will turn red.
Sanjay, I actually do live just a 15 minute drive from you. Would love to come by and see your setup. My shop is in Orem, Utah and I focus on lots of the "other" types of cichlids. Have been working with Chris C. recently and also heard your name from him.
Really great post here Sanjay - I am enjoying it!
Best of luck with starting your business.
No you don't throw them...
