I know this thread is 6 yrs old but it still works for me . I love the solid colors most of all and planning to add some with stripes and dots and dashes to match the solids. I have a 125 gallon tank that has been up and running for 10 months can I start adding discus and how many would it be wish to add at one time.

Great Thread. Is there any standardization regarding how one would know what he or she is looking at? Does one just have to trust the seller regarding the name or strain?

We have a section called the Discus Strain Catalogue which gives you an accurate depiction of what each strain should look like. That section is still in the developing stages, but most common discus are already there.

As far as trusting a discus seller? We have many sponsors here, and many discus tend to have different names, because the person who has developed a certain strain gets credit for that specific strain by naming it. It does get confusing at times, but just know that there are many discus that can look almost identical but can be called two different names. For this purpose we created the Catalogue linked to above, so that people have a better understanding of what each looks like. Try not to get too hung up on names. All discus are just a development of mixed strains and line breeding, except of course, wild caught discus.

Rick, or any others, do you happen to know what may have led to an outcome like this discus? Just curious for thoughts
