This is Lovely whom I breed to Pudding on Dec 30. She maybe gravid. I placed a teacup orchid in a light box and let Lovely explore the flowers.

Thanks Liz, this little spider is actually pregnant or in spider terms. It’s called Graviid.

I have some news I am excited about. Lovely laid an egg sack within the last 24 hours. It's yellow and about an inch round. I will see if I can get a pic. She laid in her hide.

Hi Liz, I am releasing the babies on the property. I am considering keeping a couple just to see how they develop.

You have the soul of a breeder. Maybe you could start your own unique line and get rich selling them.

Here are some pictures of Pegleg. It's a regal baby and about half grown. Most likely a male

This is Hunter. It is a canopy jumping spider (P. Otiosus) and is quite different then the regal jumping spiders, smaller and way faster.

Very cool Pat. These remind me of the spiders we would get when I worked during college as a summer research assistant here in CT. We would sample the critter populations on bushes and trees using a simple but effective cloth square.. kind of looked like an upside down kite. It was about 2 ft square with wood supports like the old style simple kites... we would hold this tarp under the branches and beat the branch with a stick. That knocked off all kinds of critters... we were looking for certain caterpillars but wow there were a ton of spiders of all sorts and many were jumpers.

That's a cool way to collect bugs Al. sure beats catching them individually
