Default Big Thanks to Pat for tea recomendation

So back when I still had discus Pat recommended using an african tea to create the tannins for a blackwater tank.

I want to thank her for this suggestion. I still use blackwater extract periodically for the minerals that it contains, but I always have a tea ball full of the tea in the tank.

Again thank you Second Hand Pat for the suggestion

Some people think it's benefits are figments of our imagination. I've raved about it in a few threads because I can't deny what I have seen with my own eyes.

    Thanks, Pat

Absolutely... I also crush up vitamin C (500mg) and put it in the 75 gallon tank. I started using Vitamin C 500mg per 50 gallons as a dechlorinator (USDA recommends this to remove chlorine/bleach from cisterns for people who are off the grid), but I don't have chlorine or chloramine in my tap water (tested with a pool test kit) after it comes through my filter.

What results do you see from using the vitamin C?

I'll give it a try. I'm always open to experimenting with something that I will do no harm.

I'm assuming vitamin C also lowers pH... or maybe they just like the orange flavor!

I use the plain, not the flavored and I don't think it effects the pH at all.

The vitamin C molecule bonds to the chlorine molecule creating a neutral.

I found two products. If I try this I'll buy the acidic one. They also make one that is non acidic. https://www.amazon.com/Bronson-Vitam...Bcrystals&th=1

Why thank you Dave and Liz, I am glad you like the tea. I use it a bit here also. Interesting bit about vitamin C. So you think it serves a purpose beyond a dechlorinator Dave?

I think it does help prevent some disease and parasites, and I have seen it perk up stressed fish when the discus were spawning / fighting.
