It's just about moving water .Big bubbles , little bubbles I don't think matter much ..
I move the bubbles right to the top when the wigglers start to swim ..

Tom, have you ever got hydra in your fry tanks? If so, is it a worry? How did you get rid of it?

I had them once but don't remember what I did to rid myself of them. They will eat tiny fry but once the fry are larger the hydra become food for them.

Hydra is often from overfeeding .
It is easily killed using fenbendazole /Pancur that you can find at box pet stores in the dog section .
Hydra would be an issue to the fry if they were younger IMO ,but now they are more a pest .
You want to kill them for sure .
1 gram [usually one packet ] mixed into 200 ml water makes the solution .
The 2 ml of the solution per gallon of tank volume .
One dose should do it if you catch it early .
This also works for planaria .

I have fenbendazole, and I saw it recommended as a treatment; but, worried about the fry and exposure. In your experience fenbendazole was safe for fry at recommended dosage?
Should I be dialing back feeding? Is this an indication Im feeding fry too much?

I have only experienced hydra in my livebearer tanks and treatment never effected any fish .
IMO it is a sign of excess waste .Food turns to waste eaten or not .
I would think you could up your water changes maybe ??
Have you added new plants to tank ? Hydra don't just grow out of thin air they must be introduced ..
The feeding just amplifies their presence .

I change 50% water everyday like clockwork, have not missed one day since the spawn was introduced on rock 24 days ago.
Ill dial back feeding to 3 times daily, I was doing 5.
I have added plants from my other tanks-- lots of them, Im sure thats how the hydra was introduced.

Edit! 24 days ago, not 2!

Looking good Tom. The parents do seem to be jostling for poll parenting position. I saw the females nipped tail better in this video as well. Both seem intent on being the primary carer.
The previous batch look great as well mate, they have nice plump bellies and they're taking shape nicely!
You're accomplishing great things. Well don't mate!

Ok I went to a fish auction in Mass. last weekend and met some buddies and new friends .
One had donated 6 pretty nice 3 inch discus from their breeding for the club raffle .She bought my GBR.
In speaking with her she seemed very knowledgeable and I am sure I missed a ton but she said discus breed for one season and that is it !
Say it ain't so ? This can not be true .It makes no sense to me , she shot another quip after that I question also but on a different fish .It just didn't make fish sense to me ..
So I was schooled on rams that they shared a 16 week breeding season with a 8 week vacation and then back at it for 16 weeks just like discus ??
Surly some of you are on season 2 with your pair ..I have had rams breed for 3 years for me .
