Going to make ourselves a family room show tank. I have the perfect spot for a 55 gallon tank :D I have lots of windows in my family room and I'm concerned about algae. My son's tanks are kept in his room and we always keep his blinds closed. Just wondering if anyone has any of their tanks in heavily lighted areas and if anyone experiences algae. If so...how do you deal with it?

I have my 130 Gal in a room that has no window dressings so during the afternoon it gets full sun. Even with the lights on 24/7 right now it doesn't have any issues with algae. I do wipe the front glass regularly while I do my WC but don't even bother to remove the very small amount of algae from the back because it isn't enough to worry about. If you keep your tank clean you should be fine.

I'm not really an expert when it comes to algae but I am pretty sure that it will depend on your water, particularly phosphates and nitrates.
