Am i the only one who floods my house every night during a wc? I think maybe 3 nights of the past 2 weeks i didnt. Its either over flowing a tank, barrel, hose falling out while filling, hose linked together with leak, over flow box pump not turned off, hose in tub falls on floor..and it keeps going. I hope one day i will get this system down without a mess!

I'm glad I'm not alone (sorry). I hate that uh oh feeling when I realize I've done it yet again-number of times too numerous to count.

Always my other half goes nuts. Luckily in the new house we are building an external fish house. He says I can flood to my hearts content..

I live in Eastbourne - the sunniest place in Britain. That isn't really saying much...
Coffee please - black and strong in pint mugs, for best results at least 6 a day.

Lol you need to come spend a week with me. It's a three or four time a week deal. Lol I have ended up having to sit by the aging barrel when refilling to stop that problem lol

Luckily, my darling wife makes sure I don't forget that I'm filling a tank or a storage barrel. There's a lot of "Are you watching that water??". Why? Because a few weeks ago I did forget (while I was at the computer, writing one of my many questions to SD !!). Carpets really soak up water don't they......

Ahh, the never ending saga of the dreadful water change incident.

I now make sure to clip hoses on the barrels when filling. Same thing when filling tanks. One flooded hardwood floor was enough.

Pat, my wife thinks it only happened 3 times. The truth it happens about 3 times a month, for many years. Multitasking and water changes, will I ever learn.

I have flooded the WC barrel multiple times.....on our nice hardwood dining room floor :(. I get a LOT of grief over it.

hose clamps: I went to Lowe's to get one, brought it home, and it just doesn't work right. don't think I got the right thing?
it slips right off the hose. can anyone steer me towards a good clamp to use, to prevent the old "hose falling out & spraying all over the floor" event?
thanks for posting this Jaime!
see, you are NOT alone :D

I have all mine in the basement. My better half wanted me to move them on the main floor where we "could enjoy them better" after the 2nd water spill he changed his mind then it was "keep them in the basment!"

Ahh a topic I can relate to...in NJ, watered my LR carpet more times than I can remember...lol...when I moved to the boonies in Tn, the house being built had a carport, which to their horror (crazy yankee), I had enclosed, tiled the floor with a drain in middle...still happens, but now I have a boon to W/Cers.....the SCREAMER!!!...worth it's weight in gold!!! (ebay, lol) hang it 'bout 2" down into the 50g barrel....one night left to get something in the kitchen, sat down, (major mistake) talked to friend, she said, what's that noise? totally forgot the water running, but did hear the screamer, even with my hearing loss...saved a big mess, almost over the top, lol.......can use it in the tanks too, if nec, & it is, lol......

small investment for big assistant...... Dottie

I got Irwin Quick Grips and it work pretty well for me. They come in various sizes.

Larry Bugg
10-23-2012, 10:53 AM
A piece of PVC with two 90 degree elbows and a connector is all you need. Then you simply hang the hose where ever you need it. You can get PVC connectors that go from PVC to a garden hose or connectors that slip directly on the tubing. I use both kinds. Why fool with grips..............hang it on your barrel or tank and go about your business. Doesn't stop the overflow though, lol. I use these for filling tanks and storage and used to use them for draining before I drilled the tanks.

Poco
10-23-2012, 10:53 AM
They only fell off couple of times.

The reason I like these is they dont pinch the hose as the regular clamp and pretty easy to put on and off.

I actually invested $10.00 each for 3 floor alarms. I had one in my house sump pump area before. never went off, luckily. Then when I got deep into the water works barrels, tanks, etc, I figure to avoid a mishap, I put these floor alarms near my barrels and utility sink/RO area. Went off once scared the crap out of me, but it worked. It measures like 1/64 of an inch of water and a piercing alarm sound. Well worth the investment.

Do you guys run a permanent carpet or something in front of your tank to prevent that , i use 2-3 beach towel in front of the tank and one smaller to wipe my hand or instruments , and i still dump water everywhere almost everytime ... I have hardwood on one onf the floor an floating floor wood on the other , same sh*t different day lol.

I can't post pictures at work but here is a good example. Cost under $10. Post 15.

I made a simple device with PVC like Larry - pretty cheap. I use suction cups to keep it on the glass and above the water line because I don't want the tank water touching it and then siphoning back down to my storage barrel (which is in my basement). i dropped the depth lower into the tank for this picture because the tank frame was blocking the full view of the device. I don't normally fill it with the device that low. This version has a quick disconnect on it for storage but I've since replaced that with a brass fitting that I just screw a hose onto.

You can also run your tubing through this

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=21430

or even better use this and drill a hole near the top to prevent a back syphon
