My new discus pair

Hi all

I got this pair of discus more than a month ago, bought them as Heckels crossed (with Turqoise). I hv no way to ascertain the breed but will just have to trust the seller. Any comments would be welcomed, but I don't really mind what breed cuz I like what I see.

This pair have been spawning and eating the eggs up (one of them ate the eggs actually)when the eggs turn white, mostly after second day...already fifth spawning, almost every week or so. Till now I didn't manage to see which of them actually spawn as I wuz mostly at work when it happens. The closest I observed wuz one of them ironing (fertilizing) the eggs so I thought this must be the male! but then the other discus seems to be ironing the eggs later (or actually laying more, I dunno)... haiz, back to square one... I dunno which is male or female or worst both could be females, or perhaps one an immature male.... time will tell I guess...

Very nice. They have some heckel characteristics.

I live in Eastbourne - the sunniest place in Britain. That isn't really saying much...
Coffee please - black and strong in pint mugs, for best results at least 6 a day.

Thanks all for comments, the eggs were eaten up over the weekend but they spawned again yesterday! I hv put netting n methylene blue. Lets see what happen.

I was gonna say, these don't show up too often. I believe Mike Beals got some in on his last shipment.

I always see red based crosses, like a RT x Heckel......I never see them crossed with like a brilliant or BT to give this nice blue base.

hi guys...juz to update, all the eggs turn white a few when mouldy despite using methylene blue earlier, I brought a breeder friend to view them and he thinks both r females due to large amount of eggs and the frequency of spawn... man, gotta think of what to do next.....

The clear answer is to find two male Heckel. Hopefully blue face heckles. And cross the male heckels with the heckle crosses. Hopefully you will then get Heckel bars in the offspring

Or send me one of the females for further experimentation. :)
