I just order Safe to replace Prime in order to cut down cost. Is 1/4 teaspoon per 50 gallon the right dosage? I will probably dose my 95 gallon aging tank with 2x 1/4 teaspoon of safe 3-4 hours before water change. I'm just not sure if I should put safe directly into my tank as I have a 75 gallon and 29 gallon running with Discus now. Hard to measure correctly for these two tanks and don't want to over dosage and kill my Discus. Those that use safe please provide me your input and feedback on Safe.

Thanks,

i dump about 1/4 TEApoon and a little more into my 75g.. same thing into my 60g.. about 1/4 TEAspoon into my 40breeder and little less into my 20g..

i put in right at time of water change.. and go str8 from tap

I add safe directly to the tank. I dont think you can overdose them by using a bit extra Safe, unless of course you dump a whole lot in. What are your water temp if over 86 you can half the amount.

I make a Prime solution from Safe, using my old Prime bottles. I calculate the same dosage, and make it as if it was the exact concentration as Prime. That way, no guesswork when adding it to the tank.

It depends on how much chlorine or chloramine is in your water but yeah that sounds about the correct ball park.

Did you mean teaspoon instead of tablespoon? If it is teaspoon interesting to know that 1/4 dosage will treat 40gal - 100gallon with no issue with Discus and little less 1/4 teaspoon for 20-29 gallon.

My 75 Adult tanks is set at 84 degree. My 29 gallon Juvie tank is set at 85 degree. What happens if temp is over 86 and you use the regular dose?

Got any instructions on this? I though prime have other solution in it to keep it good as a solution before usage. Doesn't premixing the solution go bad after 24 hours?

Interesting so 1/4 dosage works on 40gal - 100gallon with no issue with Discus and little less 1/4 teaspoon for 20-29 gallon.

i put more then 1/4 TEAspoon on larger larger tanks.. and little less in smaller

I can dig up my notes and calculations if you were really interested. It'll take me a little bit since I only do the mixture once a year or every 2 years....

I've never heard of the solution going "bad". Even called SeaChem on this and they confirmed it is the concentrated from of Prime, same thing. Even smells like it.

1 teaspoon will treat 450 gallons! do not over dose a lot as it is a reducer and reduces oxygen as well as chlorine. do not make a solution unless you are going to use all the solution immiadiatly, there are no stabilizers in Safe. you can put it in your storage tank a few minute before using. 1/8th teaspoon treats 56 gallons

So it's teaspoon and not tablespoon? I'm carious to know why warlock has not over dose his tank if he was using 1/4 tablespoon instead of 1/4 teaspoon for 60 gallon +

Seachem gives their measures in tsp. There are different if you are dosing for chlorine vs. chloramine vs. ammonia the bottle tells you all you need to know. I dose 1/4 to 1/2 tsp per 75 gallons depending on what I scoop out. There is a pretty large margin of error, not as large as say prime but I would think you would have to add a large amount to OD... but you can really stretch it if you dose properly. The 1 kg bottle lasts me about 10 months to dose a 75 g daily and other smaller tanks weekly

50grams last me about 2 months changing 135 gallons a day. I use the little measure they have. 4 to a 75, 2 to a 44 gal brute , 1 to a 20. those are holding tanks. my water averages 1.52 to 1.77ppm total chlorine on my test and I have chloramines, if that helps anybody. when I used prime I would see certain fish hang around air diffusers but not anymore.

I have your same setup, I dump 2 x 1/4 teaspoon in the 75s before I add water, 1/8 teaspoon to the 29s before refill. I do have chloramines.

I am also a Seachem Safe user.....remember use 1/2 dosage when temperature is over 30 Celsius or 86 Fahrenheit as mentioned on the bottle.

I finally use the recommended dose you mention for your 75 and 29 and I'm happy to say no issue with my fish the last three days of using Safe. I'm happy I didn't experience any set backs. I will finish the remaining Prime i reserve in case Safe didn't work out. Now I can safely say I can switch from Prime over to SAFE going forward. This will save me money that I can use for something else in this hobby. Thanks all for your input...
