Hi guys have a question regarding algae. My tank has build up of algae everyday all over the glass and was wondering if there
Is a way to reduce it. (green algae on glass and plants)
All tank conditions are as normal
Ph 7
Temp 29
Nitrate 0
Don't over feed
Water change and glass clean daily.
Tank does receive a fair bit of sunlight but I don't have a choice.

Any help will be welcomed.

You can try reducing your photo period. How long do you keep the lights on each day? Try reducing it to 4-6 hrs when you are usually around to watch the fish.

You can also scrub the tank walls every time you do a water change. For the plants, I use Flourish Excel to keep algae off and to keep the leaves healthy.

wipe it all down. I do wipe downs with my daily water changes.

Bristlenose Pleco will clean it up and keep it clean.

Do what Trish said. Wipe down all walls daily with water changes. BN will work but they also poop a lot and leave one less spot for more discus!

Op says he already wipes down the glass everyday,
wiping the glass won't remove algae from plants,
if your changing water everyday a little pleco poop is no big deal

get a pleco!

It would be helpful if you knew what type of algae you are dealing with. Photos would give a better idea. Also can you check the phosphates?

floating plants like salviniana, hornwart or duckweed take more nutrients from the water than other plants leaving less for the algae.

I am told by my local that it is blue green algae.

All pics, with the exception of the last one, look like brown (diatoms), not green algae.

Ottos can get a taste for the discus slime coat. A lot of people do not recommend keeping them with discus.
