Hello, can you guys tell me if i have to have aeration in discus planted tank with semi-automatic co2 unit?

Thank you in advance.

I have been running my tank for about 9 years now with 0 aeration. I just have my CO2 running on a PH controller and enough agitation on the water surface from the water being pumped back in.

In my experience.... I would never have a tank without consistent airation. But hey thats your decision and there will be more dissolved O2 in the water in a planted aquarium say my breeding setup obviously. Still, discus take precedence to plants in my opinion, and at least from my breeding standpoint I would never allow a tank to go without airation, and generally speaking far more than what is necessary.

Thank you for your input.
I'll turn it off for a while, we'll see :)

I do not know if aeration is necessary but it certainly a good idea particularly if you are running CO2. Hopefully your CO2 goes off at night!!

Have your co2 @ 20-25ppm with decent surface movement and you'll be fine. Just monitor your discus behavior, they'll tell you if you have enough surface movement or not.

Yes, CO2 goes off at night, it runs for about 8 hours/day, approximately 3 bubbles per second, along with lights (96W for 55 G).
I have wet-dry filter behind the tank, so i think it may have enough of aeration there.
I'll keep an eye on the things for a bit, and report back here.

Thank you!
