Hi, I just purchased a 75 gallon fish tank and heard I can help the young fish Im purchasing grow out faster if I have water trickle in while water sumps out with a constant flow. The water I use is well water and works well for my other tanks. My question is if I did this should I have just have a sponge filters with maybe some air stones? I have just used a sponge filter with pairs in the past in smaller tanks. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I was forgetting. It just seems to simple I guess. It will just be a bare tank with hopes that I will get pairs out of it in a yr or two.

Oh ok, guess it is that easy. Ok, well wish me luck then. My 90 gallon plant discus tank has a large under tank filter with airstones and I just kept wondering if maybe I should get such a filter, but I think I will just stick with the sponge filter. airstone and heater as you said. Alright thanks.

What are you going to be growing out in it?

14 young discus. Im purchasing 7 Ring Leapard Reds and looking to purchase 7 more colors that would work out as a good mix for pairing off. So trying to decide whom to get them from.

Yea that will be a good size for 14. I was hoping it wasn't going to be 5 or 6. Good luck with your grow outs!

Yah hoping so. Its the first time that I will have used the constant water flowing through so expect a good growth rate.

Ok, Done some more research it may not be as good as it sounds the constant water flow. Reading up sounds like it wont cycle enough of the water. So will probably just stick to changing water everday like before, uhg. Well at least the water source is right close and the drain, so hopefully will get a quicker exchange set up.

Bummer that's not gonna work out for ya. Nothing beats doing WCs the ol' fashion way. Makes you appreciate them more.

I am going to feed them a mixture of things. Tetra granules, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp and I have just had my fish sample the freeze dried black worms and they seem to like it, so planning to order more of that. I do on an occasion feed beefheart. I do make some sometimes, but lately I have been lazy and buying it. I never fed my fish the Tetra granules before but the young ones I'm getting have been eating these granules well, so gonna continue to add that to the mix.
