So i went to menards and purchased a 44 gallon brute trash can to use as a water aging container. Walking out of the store i run into my father-in-law. He asks me what i needed the food grade container for, i explain it to him. He then says " i wish i knew you needed one of thise.....i have six of them at home" I tell him well I'm still here....i CAN return it and save myself $44 !. So I did....and get to his house where yes....he has six 44 gallon containers. Looks just like brute
Except there white, and say " sysco foods" on them. He makes his own wine. My concern is can i use these? What precautions do i need to do to container? Like washing it out and making sure there is no bad stuff in it. Baking soda soak or something?

Chloramine T works a treat , or bleach and rinse.

So just standard house hold bleach rinse will do it?

That's what I've always used with success...& I do like choramine T as well, but for the fish equipment including barrels, regular bleach works sufficiently.....JMO

Rinse a few times and air dry. After that you should be good to go!
