View Full Version : Quite filtration?

I’m tired of cleaning the two canister filters I have on my 110 gallon.
This is a lightly planted tank with pool filter sand. What would be by best bet for new filtration? I was thinking about an Aquaclear 110 and a sponge filter. The thing is right now I have no noise coming from the tank. How quite is the Aquaclear? What would be better?
Thanks..

I have two of those on my 120 and am happy with them. Very quiet, easy to clean, easy to add the media you want to use.

You may hear a little sound depending on water level on the aquaclear. The air driven sponge filter will give off a pop sound as the bubbles break. This is the setup I have and very easy to clean.

If you don't want the noise of bubbles breaking, you can use a powerhead to pull water through the sponge filter. Good luck.

I think depending on your cansiter filter, there could be an internal problem like the impeller making noise.

Whether you have a canister, HOB, Sump or wet/dry, there will always be some noise. If you have the filters inside a stand, maybe you can enclose the stand better?

I have a Fluval 405 and an AquaClear 110 on my 95 gallon tank, both are pretty quiet. When it was a planted tank, I cleaned it once week.

You should try adding a prefilter like I did to the intake and then a couple times a week just clean the prefilter. Will save you some time cleaning the whole canister.

I have to say that HOB filters are awefully noisey. I often have to stick my hand in the tank to check the current to see if my canister is running (Ehiem pro 3) the thing is totally silent.
