Usually I think of black discus as ill, needing care, but a local fish shop supposedly has Black Discus for sale.. Whats your opinions??
I haven't seen them yet, but I plan to.

I know of a couple of sellers that have sold extremely peppered pigeons as black discus and saw a video on youtube of someone trying to sell a sick wild as a black discus.

Most likely to be a sick discus.

It's technically possible but would be very rare and never find it's way to an LFS. A black discus would be melanistic (opposite of albino and 10x as rare). I would avoid any black discus being sold at an LFS like the plague.

You can see in the video that it has a few faint stripes and fin rot. That's probably what it's going to look like.

Yep like everyone else said black discus= sick discus

You should find a dead fish in their tank and ask them if it's just sleeping :D

Awhile back Jack Wattley, has some black Discus for sale, I think he called them Mumbo or something similar.

Probably an extremely heavily peppered pigeon blood.

I have Alenquers and Santarems. I have dark brown malaysian driftwood. When the fish hang in the spaces in the driftwood they turn dark brown, almost black. When they swim away from the driftwood their color lightens to a normal light brown or reddish brown. I know brown Discus varieties are not popular in today's Discus market but they look great with plants and wood. Sorry no camera yet. If they were against a black background with black gravel they might turn black. The first time I noticed this I thought I had fish with problems but within a few inches of swimming away from the driftwood they were OK.
