I have a planted 90 gal up and running for four months, and have just added 6 four inch RT. They seem to be doing fine so far. The tank is filted by a W->D using bio balls and a 700 gph pump.
Water changes and some feedings leave the tank cloudy for a while and I was thinking of adding a canister filter just for mechanical filtration to perhaps pick up the particulate matter more rapidly.
I would probably just use filter pads so they could be changed out routinely.
The overflow in the W->D has a sponge pre-filter that I rinse weekly.
Can you over filter a tank? I am not using the added filter to get out of water changes. The present filter has a spray bar on the return and I would do the same with the canister.
