Got a new toy in the mail today. I am highly pumped, just spent 4-5 hours field stripping it and cleaning it. I've wanted one of these since I started learning about WWII. One of my favorite guns ever. Finally a dream come true...and I have another one on the way!

A BEAUTIFUL piece of American History is now mine.

Anyone else into guns? I'm just getting into it, just starting my collection. I'm in the process of obtaining a Federal Firearms License so I can purchase more older weapons. Feel free to post your collection/favorite.

Nice Grand bought mine fron the DCM about 18 years ago for $375.00. Shortly after I started shooting the M14. Will spot you 10 points at 1000 yards. Would like to by MoRe but my gun safe is like my fish tank over crowded;)

Is that what I think it is in the first picture?? Looks like a sporterized stock on a 1903? Doesn't have a straight stock like the regular 1903s had. Kind of resembles a Mauser too. Sweet none the less and thats a gun on my list of must haves, hard to find good ones for the right price though.

Yeah I hear ya, collections get big. I'll post up some new pictures tomorrow of my new additions. Well old additions but new to me, recently acquired from my grandparents.

Matt you are right it is not a pure breed. The rifle is a stock military 1903A1 action manufactured in 1928. The barrel band sights have been removed a carefully stored and a Lyman 48C receiver sight added the front sight is a Lyman 17C. The 1903A1 was issued with a scant or straight stock. The stock on the rifle is a later C stock which was issued on the later 1903A3 which is the receiver sight version. http://world.guns.ru/rifle/rfl07-e.htm

I purchased the rifle for $400.00 about four years ago form a fellow shooters estate. I believe that he purchased it from the DCM I the early 50’s. He used as a silhouette rifle, it is extremely accurate capable of groups of 1 inch at 100 yards and about 36 inches at 1000 yards.
I have spent the last 25 year competing in DCM/CMP high-power matches. I am almost 60 and my eyes are not as good as they once were scopes and receiver sights have become necessary.

Be Safe and Keep Shooting :)

Nice. I wish CMP still had a stock of the 1903s. I still hold hope. Here are some more of my budding collection. My safe is to small...

One of my favorites, the Colt "Peacemaker". Probably the most recognized pistol of all time. This is a .38 special first generation model of the Colt Single Action Army (Peacemaker). This gun is all original parts, a little wear to it but in great condition and I love looking at it.

Next up is my Savage 720 12 gague shotgun and Mossberg M51(a) .22
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c172/clemmatt/both1.jpg

And here is an interesting one. Passed down from my grandparents, an old musket. No idea anything about it. Stories in the family say it was fired in the Civil War and after was modified a bit to fit a smaller person, possibly a woman.

Something a little cool. South Carolina tax stamps on a box of old ammo. I'm a young guy so its interesting to see this kind of stuff.

I was bored with the current setup on my AR15, so I decided to do a little remodeling. Iron sights and red dot scopes are nice, but it's no fun to shoot a 12" target at 100yds w/o magnification, it's almost impossible to see where you're shooting. The build was inspired by the US Navy Mk 12 Mod 0/1 SPR (special purpose rifle). I couldn't afford all the real parts that are used for the Navy's version, so I had to improvise. Here's more info on the Mk 12 SPR: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_12_S..._Purpose_Rifle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_12_Special_Purpose_Rifle)

- Spikes Tactical lower receiver & custom-engraved ejection port cover
- RRA lower parts kit w/ two-stage trigger
- Ergo Tactical Deluxe pistol grip
- Ace Skeleton stock, rifle length
- JP Enterprises 15" hand guard
- DPMS Miculek muzzle brake / compensator
- Harris 6-9" lightweight bipod
- Nikon M-223 3-12x42SF scope, calibrated for .223/55gr/3240fps round
- Nikon M-223 742 scope mount, 20 MOA incline

Very nice Jose!

Anyone here carry concealed? Might I ask what you carry? I'll be getting my license here soon so I'm in the market for a pistol. I'm really looking hard at the 1911 models. A bit long (unless you get a 3-4" barrel version) but pretty thin and the mag is single stack. Just looking for options at this point. Not really a fan of Glocks, to over hyped.

True. I was just kidding around, but they do pack a helluva punch. Really no need to carry around here. We mostly just shoot long guns. I'm liking that "Judge". Should do some damage with buckshot, or a slug.

I am a concealed carry person....I only have two safes full of weapons, but my current favorite cc is a ruger LCP in .380....dang thing fits anywhere, and with newer ammo, the .380 isn't what it used to be....Gary

Yep, so far I really like it. Last winter while prospecting in Prescott, I stopped by the factory. I've owned a lot of Ruger rifles, but this is my first Ruger pistol..I have an older Browning .380, and it's as large as my Sig 226-9!....The LCP is really great for the price....(I got one of my daughter's one in Raspberry [pink])
My current project that won't get finished until fall is building a PTR-91 into a SAW....

I've got an older .380 from my Dad that is a replica of the Colt Commander.Looks sweet but the only way you could hit the side of a barn with it is if you were inside. My brother shoots semi-pro,and he had to switch from his .45 to a nine mil because in his 60's,couldn't shoot it all day with the kick.I shot it a few times and fell in love with it.Para Ordnance .45 Hi-Cap 18+1.All tweaked out and balanced from his smith.

I was hoping to finally meet you all some day...but I've since changed my mind reading through these posts. Just in case I piss someone off I'm far enough here at home safe and sound.
My Mom passed on her weapon of choice which was a (model size 6 slipper) high impack sole and seemed to do the trick growing up.
As Rodrigo mentioned...I 've since added (Louisville SluggerBat C555): An alloy that includes scandium, C555 is stated to be up to 10% stronger than C405.

What I think I really want, and what I'm eying right now is a Dan Wesson (CZ USA) "Guardian" or CCO. Very similar weapons. Hard to decide! I think it will come down to the bobtail grip. I'm pretty set on .45 ACP though with a 1911 base. Oh and no straight triggers, I hate straight triggers.

Not my pictures, but this is what I want. First is the Guardian.

They are great. Both of mine worked like a charm the first time I shot them. Just cleaned the cosmoline off and greased them up, nothing else. Out of storage and shooting for the first time since basically the Korean War and they shoot perfectly. No feed or ejection problems, accurate, cycling very well....more then pleased. Best part is they are SO easy to clean and service compared to the new black rifles. And very durable.

Dan wesson 1911s are great. I'm really fond of the guardian. They are backed by a great company too. CZ has outstanding cs (not that you will need it) and they make a quality firearm. The cz 75 is my favorite pistol design. Their ergonomics are sweet and the gun fits my hand like a glove. This is my edc... Cz pcr

I'll probably have to order it straight from CZ, doesn't look like any dealers down my way regularly carry their firearms. Which really isn't a problem, Could possibly get their military discount this way. Only downside is I've heard they are backed up, especially for 1911s like most companies are atm. Maybe I'll get lucky and see a used one sitting in a display case somewhere for sale.

Good news for me, just talked to CZ (Makers of the Dan Wessons) and they do offer a military discount. Just gotta send in my credentials to get the price list. This Dan Wesson is becoming more a reality haha! If Springfield would bring back the 40% off of a pistol for military/LEO I'd hop on that fast, but right now they are running another deal.

I haven't "pulled the trigger" so to speak on a pistol yet.

However the CMP just got in a load of bolt action rifles (m1917, m1903, m1903a3), sent in my order for 2 1903a3 rifles. The CMP received 2500 orders just on Monday (first day of sale) for appox 2012 pieces available. Thats full rifles and stuff like just receivers or receivers + barrels. So you do the math, its going to a lotto system. I hope I get lucky for at least 1!! Its a rifle on my bucket list. I always go for 2 because I like to get different manufactures and someday I might have kids, and I'd love to pass something like this down. I should know if I'm getting anything within the next few days. Its almost like waiting for discus to come via fedex!

I've got an old Springfield myself; I picked it up way back around '68, was dirt cheap then. It's a real beater, nothing nice..It sometimes travels with a chicom sk under one of my pickup seats...It's time for an oiling in my two safes, eben tho' I'm busy on the new fishroom..I'm at around 30 pistols, give or take..realise that includes muzzle loader's, six shooter's, etc. besides 'modern' firearms..These are the top three in my top shelf...
Center, the .380 Browning I carried to work for 25 years..
Lower, the .380 Ruger that replaced the Browning as a daily carry..
Top, the Sig-Sauer 226-9 Navy Seal..One bad boy...Phosphate coated internals, nitron, and a laser..This guy also travels with me in strange neighborhoods and hincky situations...
I carry a .45 Peacemaker when in desrt locations prospecting, but I'll clean those another day

Got them! They are my first ever bolt guns, and I already love them. They are a bit banged up, but definitely shootable which is what I wanted. They need a good cleaning, and some rust busting in some small areas but the bolts are soooo smooth and they will function perfectly. Just need some slings for them now. I'll probably eventually pickup a new barrel for one of them, probably the Remington, but for now its fine. Both rifles have barrels dated to late 1943. American history, gotta love it! Can't wait to take these out.

Hello all, after a run through the dishwasher and a nice cleansing this thread is back. It got a bit side tracked yesterday and I will take the blame for that as I am the one that bumped it, however it is back now to its original purpose and state. I hope you will all join me in keeping it this way from now on. I encourage you to post and show us what you have but keep the political and hot topic posts out, I will do the same. Al was gracious enough to let the thread continue as long as other discussions were kept out. I know its a passionate subject that's near and dear to many of our hearts but out of respect for the families of the latest victims, Al and the forum's wishes, and other simply members I ask that we refrain from that debate/discussion.

I want to make it clear to those reading that in no way shape or form did I or anyone else posting here intend any disrespect towards the latest families or victims of violence and it is nothing but a tragedy for our country. Nice Josie, like the picture or black?

I keep putting off buying a pistol, so many rifles I keep wanting that the pistol is pushed to the back burner. Looking for a nice lever action rifle now lol.

Usually I agree, though a short stock shotgun or small carbine works just as well for me!

Thats why I asked Rod, down here they all get black guns...usually Glock 22s, Highway Patrol uses Glock 37 in .45 GAP. A lot of agencies let officers choose what their second carry will be, I've seen anything from another glock to an old style revolver.

Some of those old Marlins are very desirable these days Skip. The craftsmanship back then was second to none compared to what it is today.

I grew up hunting with my dad and I received my first gun at 14, a Beretta 20 gauge shotgun. It is a beautiful little gun with a modified choke. The perfect bird gun. My husband decided he wanted a Glock 9mm for Christmas which is not a bad fit for my hand and look forward learning to shoot it.

I have a marlin 22 rifle as well, except mine came from my grandmother.....I remember her shooting squirrels off the birdfeeder from her front porch in the early 70s. I have several much more expensive handguns but nothing more precious than that old marlin. Ironically I inherited my grandfathers wedding band. Yep grandpa's jewelry and grandma's gun lol!

One of the 45's was my dad's,sold it to a friend, and bought it back to give to my son when he graduates from mechanics school next month.Seeing as how I had them out, snapped some pics.My favorite,High-Cap Parordanance. My brother shoots semi-pro,and as he got older,he wanted a lighter gun,and sold it to me.18 shot .45.77061My son was into WWII when younger,so on his 7th birthday,I was a hit with all the other parent, got him this .22 Ruger repilca of a Luger.77062And the rest, upper right is the Colt Comander with an extended barrel I'm giving my son,and lower right a .380 colt designed to look like the Colt Comander.77063

That's iteresting and good since it is a personal choice. Do they give you guys parameters such as caliber, or specific brands?

Thats also what my brother does,"cowboy shoots".Dress the part and shoot targets in the field,six-shooter in each hand. For his age group, older then me,at one time he was ranked second in the country.

There are people who do this while riding a horse at a full gallop and shoot balloons. It is called Cowboy Mounted Shooting

I would love to try that if I could find someone to train with and had a rock solid horse. Sure looks like fun.

I have been using my son's Glock 19. But I prefer a larger round. A .45 ACP is like a 9mm, except for grownups. :) I love my 1911. But it is really to large to carry every day now and fits my vest poorly.

So, even though my son will have a fit, I have been looking hard at a S&W M&P .40 Compact with the low concealed carry sight setup. Anyone have one and if so, what do you think of the gun?

Tom

Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and beheld a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

John Browning's .45 ACP entered service in 1911. Coincidence? I think not.

Glock makes a slim line .45. I had one for a while. Nice gun. Holds 6+1. Worth taking a look at.

Been a while, just added a new one to the collection. Very very spur of the moment. Got the announcement that the CMP had a limited number (roughly 2000) of M1 Carbines available about 2 days before they went on sale. Got my order in with the other 5000+ they received and from there it was a pure lottery drawing from the mail bins. Had to wait 1.5-2 months but I was one of the lucky winners and received an outstanding Carbine visually and mechanically. These things are hard to come by in any original type condition these days, if you have them you usually hold onto them. Unlike a new car the price increases as soon as you purchase it, compared to market value I got an amazing deal on it....it's why I love the CMP.

This is why I have to be set back buying any new camera equipment or aquarium goods. Didn't even know If I'd get this one so I had a few hundred bucks tied up in limbo for months and then poof they're gone lol. Thankfully my tax return covered it.
