Got access to some 55 gal food grade barrels.Only thing is they're metal.Anyone use metal for water storage?At $20 appiece with lids,I'm cosidering.

Never heard of using metal barrels - is the interior coated?

I have never used one but if you think about it we use metal pots and pans for cooking all time time.

I paid $25 for food grade blue barrels they are also 55g.

I'd bet it is. I work in the veg canning business and we have a couple plants that manufacture cans. There are some pretty good coatings out there. I'm going to have to do some Goggling.

I'm going to see what was in them.Just know they are food grade.

My only concern would be what happens when the coating get scratched(you know it will). Will the metal leach stuff into the water and then eventually rust? Food for thought.

I didn't find any food grade metal 55's on the net. I'll have to see if I can find out if they exist at work tomorrow. The works I would want to ask might be on vacation though.

But unless I'm missing something, and I could be, when you go to food grade 55s it takes you to poly.

That is what I was thinking - It will be interesting what Bill finds out - price is right

That page is the steel drum page, they list them as "food grade steel barrels", I'm assuming that is what they are.
