I bought a 40 gallon and a 20 long last time. Might get another 20 high for a
breeding tank. I have about a dozen discus almost old enough to pair up.

The only thing weird about Petco---and check it out if you get one. They
base their sales tax on the full price of the tank here in Washington state.
I called the state taxing authority and they said that was wrong. Petco
seems to get around it by saying it's a Pal-club discount. I paid almost
$8.00 tax on a 40 gallon ($40) purchase.

You have no idea what I went through with them a couple years ago with my canister filter to make a story short I never got it and I wouldn't recommend believing their website when it states items are instock or believing them when you call and they tell you it Will be in in a week.

If it wasn't for this sale I wouldn't go back ever!

Same here - our Petco is actually pretty nice. People know me and price match to the cheaper mom/pop place that's 25 minutes away but much cheaper also. So I buy my bird food at petco but make them price match it... The manager calls every 6 months or so to check the price but other times I just show my last receipt, and sometimes it's the same checker and even if I don't have my receipt she just puts it in at the discount. Phone number only for the petco card - cause I have no clue where that card is, or my Petsmart or CVS one that has a seven year old phone number tied to it...

I just got home from Petco. Today was the last day of the $1/gallon sale. Guess what? They had 29s and 55s the whole time! I spoke to a customer service rep while at the store and she said she had no idea why the local ads only list 10, 20, and 40 gallon tanks because they actually include the 29 and 55 sizes as well. She says the 55s only seem to get included every other $1/gallon sale, though, meaning my local store probably will skip 55s on the next one. She told me they do these sales four times a year.

So if your local ad only lists 10, 20, and 40 gallon tanks, call and check anyway because sometimes the ads are wrong. Unfortunately when I got there today all they had left were 10 gallons.

Yep, I just left. I got a 40 breeder and a 20 long. They also have 10s, 29s, and 55s. My store only had one 55 but they had a huge stack of 40 breeders. Also, if anyone is looking for a 20 long and they don't have them in the fish section, check the reptile section. That's where I found mine.

Another perk from SD, getting pointed to this sale which I was unaware of. I went in this morning and sure enough, tanks are staged in the isle. I brought a pair of 40g breeders home. It said regular price was 114. The guy said the 55g were gone in an hour but they have six more ordered to be delivered this week.

Petco is having their dollar per gallon sale. This goes up to the 55 gallons. I have found that the 55 gallons have all sides tempered glass now. Sticker on the glass indicates all glass is tempered. The others seem only to have tempered glass on the bottom.
I personally like the forty gallons, but am disappointed that I can not drill the 55.

The tax thing... I was so peeved by that during the last $ per gallon. I think the state considers it an instant rebate so they charge the tax on the sale at the original price they then rebate you instantly (after original sale and tax) and give you the $ per gallon price.

That's how I see it. If a 55 is normally $100.00, the 6.5% Florida sales tax on it would be $6.50. So if I get a 55 gallon tank and they charged me tax on the full price of the tank, it'd be $55.00 + $6.50 = $61.50. That's still $38.50 cheaper than the full price of the tank.

Bumping this because I just got the Petco email. It looks like the sale is on again from June 28th through August 8th, and according to my flyer they've gone back to Aqueon brand tanks. The ad says 10, 20, 20L, 29, 40, and 55 gallons are included.
