Eggs but No fry

I have had four or five times my two melons lay eggs on a cone. The eggs within 3-5 days turn white and are eaten by one of the discus. The conclusion to a previous thread by the replies on the forum is that I have two females or a male that does not know how to do it. I observed the last egg laying, and the "male" follows the female after she lays the eggs and seems to be fertilizing them. The question is: Do you see the sperm (as a white cloud, etc.) during the events?
