Hello, I had a problem with one of my discus fins having a bacterial infection. I fixed that up with daily 90% water changes as well as adding salt to the tank for 8 days. It's all better now and growing back. See pic:

As you can see the fin is still damaged but not infected. My question is... should I trim the fin it to help the shape grow back correctly or will that happen by itself?

Thanks!

When that much of the fin is gone it may not grow back without trimming. Search the forum there are posts that explain how to do it

Also be cautious not to cut the hard rays, those don't grow back.

Thanks lipadj46 & Eddie,

Eddie - what are the "hard rays" ?

The first 9 rays that are very stiff/hard. They lead into the soft rays.

Thanks lipadj46 & Eddie,

Eddie - what are the "hard rays" ?

They are part of the dorsal fin closest to the head.

Here is Al's tutorial in trimming the soft fins
