Hey guys and gals :)

I was just wondering at what size/age is a discus considered adult?

I got 8 in a barebottom tank but not a clue when I can transfer them over to a planted?

It is hard to say by size, they could be 3inch and be 2yrs old or a 4inch and 6months old. You need to know their age to determine if they are adults or not.

I forgot who told me but this statment seems to be true in my experience. If the tail is clear then is a sub adult. If the tail has a yellowish tint to it then its an adult.

I wonder if this holds true for Wilds

IME, with P.Altum at least sexually they do not mature for approx 2 years.. bit of a late bloomer ;)

Age isn't the only thing to consider.......look at Skip for example. I would say they are adults when they reach sexual maturity....ie they are able to breed. Generally speaking however I think 1 year is the norm with certain strains taking a bit longer.

Wild discus mature later also like P. album at about two years.
