DISEASE QUESTIONNAIRE

Problem

1. Please explain the problems with your fish/when and how they started

I noticed today that two of my discus are darker and there fins appear to be almost sheared and there top fin is a bit out of sorts as well...... I believe its fin rot but Im not positive.

2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/ white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds)

Fins frayed and dark edges on fins as well as darker in general to the others. The one seems to be a bit stray from the others but will willingly regroup with them as well. He also doesnt have a defined colour pattern on him if that helps like all the others do.

Just a quick concern JJ, if your temp is constant at 89, thats too high. Bring it down to 84.

Oh for juvies thats okay..I thought it had to be higher will lower temp but is that the cause of the rotting fin issue thing?

Not sure on that JJ, but you don't state what your water parameters are or if you are using aged water, tap or RO? This might help others to assist you.

Hope all turns out ok.

Is your tank cycled?

jjgunshot

Yes tank is cycled as well as I use python to do water changes at same temp. I will start aging water once they have grown out and I can use the current tank they are in as an ageing tank. I use Seachem Prime as the water conditioner

Also bumping the temp back Jeff :)

The rest of the fish in the tank look amazing as well. They are getting colour and good shape

Should I quarantine and add salt to the tank ? or just watch it for now? I dont have the means to age the water currently as Id need a pump to pump the aged water up a whole story to the tank.

Not sure if its fin rot or just nipping or what

Or should I treat the whole tank with salt?

I think we covered this already. You are not aging your water right?

Not yet Eddie planning on getting a ageing tank, Would a 55 gallon tank be enough for a ageing tank for a 105 gallon or is a 75 gallon better suited?

Was told tap water treated was fine for discus but god I cant stress enough how it just doesnt work out for the best....

Thank god for this site lol

I might jump the gun and get the aging tank and sub pump quicker to get my fish on the right track I hope.. I do hope its just aging water issue and not fin rot

To pump your water to your tank using your python, try this setup as I use this to go up one level and it works good.

I have this model - JSSSP-FGHT

it will have to be able to pump water at least 15 ft uphill and about 40-50 ft total

was looking at these three

Unfortunately at this point, it does look like bacteria is affecting them. Once you start aging your water, there will be less issues, guarantee it. Don't treat the tank without fixing your water first or you'll be pissing in the wind. Pick up some furan-2 and treat according to the box. Remember, FIX THE WATER first. Keep temp around 82F, good air in the tank and lights off during treatment.

So

Step 1 Fix Water
Step 2 Treat Entire Tank with Furan-2 or should I qt out the infected?
Step 3 Lights off during treatment

Personally I would treat the group.

anyone who has used it got any experience please?

Okay I started treatment with furan 2 and I'm starting to age my water ahead. Should I be adding aquarium salt as well during or after treating with furan 2?????
