Who says males will not fertilize with fry on their back. My male has not heard this. I had to scramble around this morning and put up another tank. I pulled the fry and then the male and left the female with wrigglers they have. And she is fierce! I'm a bit scared to put my hand back in her tank.

I'm getting real tired of waiting for another batch of fry. 3 1/2 pairs and no one getting it right.

I am trying to get mine to stop breeding. I have the T-Aqua female in my planted community tank and she has switched partners to the other T-Aqua who I am now guess is a male and spawned yesterday. The funny part about this is that I have an Albino Red Cover Striated who I think is male and he got in on the spawning action. So the eggs were "fertilized" by both the T-Aqua and the ARC Striated.

I am very tempted to cover the eggs and see if they are fertilized.

So I decided on silence in the fish room and it paid off, kinda. My Yellow Diamonds decided to spawn on the same day my proven T-Aqua RT female and the T-Aqua RT unknown (but seen in the California Freak video). I am happy say the freak is a confirmed male as of last night. Neither spawn was large so I decided to give the Yellow Diamond wrigglers of which there were about 8 to the T-Aqua RTs that had about the same amount of wrigglers. They took them.

They are hanging out with my YD female. I am not sure if they are all YDs or if I might have a T-Aqua RT or two in there. Both pairs had about 7 wrigglers so I threw them all together with the YD female. I will post a picture tonight because they are kinda cute.

It was an accident. Kinda like forgetting to take the pill. All tanks had a TDS of well over 100 with the exception of The Abstainers(the SS). I was trying to get them to just clean the cone and that did not happen until I got their TDS down to 29 and threatened them with a knife. All of a sudden all of the fish spawned. An accident I tell you but I will give myself credit for playing with the TDS after the others spawned to see if any would hatch!! And that is one accident that will not be repeated on a group of 7 pairs.....lol Unless we move the all to Walter's house.

Well, you should at minimum record what works for you. I'd be curious to also know any source water changes between now and then. It does make a difference. All you'd really need to make your June experiment work is a few more tanks. Just sayin. :D

Ok so this morning at the House of Geh-Tao hatchery...lol I saw something that has never actually happened in large amount of spawns my hatchery produces (kidding). In the 6 batches of fry I have actually had I have never had a large amount of belly crawlers maybe about 4 or 5 per patch. This time however I have around 30 of them. Should I be concerned?

I suppose that is possible. I've heard of similar ssues with deformities with low TDS water but that was DEFORMITY. I guess it could apply here as well. How much of a shift in TDS and when? Before the spawn, after fertilization???

Well the hatchery has been shutdown for a while as all of you know. I had to deal with a sick fish, taking him to an aquatic vet and waiting for what seemed like forever to get the results for the lab to find out if I had to cull every fish I have with the exception of two. The results came back and it turned out to be bad but not even as bad as it could have been. There is no need to cull my fish. Lazy Fat B*****d however has cancer. I put his lady with him two days after his trip to the vet because if he were contagious she would already have it and low and behold they spawned two days later and he actually covered. Swam all the way up the cone too. This will be his last batch.

The T-aquas are way smaller than the Cobalts. I think the Cobalts are like a third bigger than the t-aquas.

First up we have the Yellow Diamond fry. This batch is special to me because the male of this group was diagnosed with cancer. He has since been put down.

You are so right. The Angel fry alone are a large group. Thank goodness I interupted that spawning. All of the other fish seem to have first spawns of only 50+ so I will not go to the poor house making bbs.

They look awesome for 2.5 week old fry. Once they get to body size of a dime, it's easier to see if you have any you want to cull. At this time they are surely big enough for a tank move and or take parents out. They have done all they can do for them.. Most important I hope they have learned parent raise behavior as those 2 are surely some of the best I've seen.

From the looks of it, I'd say by shape and size, they are about a half a week ahead as they look more like 3 week old fry.

Congrats on doing a fine job with your 1st angel spawn.

Most important I hope they have learned parent raise behavior as those 2 are surely some of the best I've seen.

From the looks of it, I'd say by shape and size, they are about a half a week ahead as they look more like 3 week old fry.

Congrats on doing a fine job with your 1st angel spawn.

Yay for me!! And I am totally afraid to pull the parents because they will spawn again. They still want to kill me when I go into the tank. I am thinking a tank with a divider so they do not spawn or I can Vacuum it up I supposed. Thanks for answering me and for the heads up about the food. I will update again in a week.

All things have been really quiet in the house of Geh-Tao. Trying to get pairs to spawn and carry. Trying my hand at Angels (I honestly was not thrilled just too easy.) And finishing off the dreaded QT. Rather boring summer actually. I finally got some excitement last week. My Golden based San Merahs spawned for the 6th time and they finally got it right.
