Newly cycled, tetras and Corey's 1st or Discus

What should go in the new freshly cycled system 1st?

In each of my community tanks I chose 12-20 cardinal tetras & 4-6 cories first, then the school of discus a few weeks later. That way if I missed something about the water parameters I'm only out the value of a single discus, instead of a school of discus. There's also the risk of ich from the tetras & cories if you didn't get them from a reputable source, which the 2+ weeks would help compensate for.
