I just discovered the tap water in my town is suddenly high (30 ppm). It's usually 0, I talked to my l.f.s. and they said depending on the season and weather it can vary. Thinking of a solution, I read about aquaripure nitrate filters and wondered if this would work on my ageing barrel to remove nitrate to avoid having to use r.o. Water. Any advise or thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanx

You would be better off getting a RO unit. It would be much cheaper and very simple to operate, there can be issues if you are sloppy in managing the denitrate filter.

Thanks dogbert4pres. I think that's the way I'm heading.

I have to laugh though... 30 ppm. My well is about 100 ppm and would love to have 30.

So is 30 ppm something I should worry about? I'm new to discus so I'm just assuming that they're like fine glass that will shatter if handled wrong. They seem ok, just figuring it will be bad long term. They are ornery lately, I think they're still establishing their places though?
