I have been doing twice a day water changes this past week on a 30 gal QT tank and have only been able to age the water for 12 hrs.
Today to speed up the WC process, I used an old pond pump (700 GPH) in series to empty and fill the tank.
When I was done, I put the pump in my aging barrel to agitate the water, instead of my usual small circ. power head. Needless to say a 700 gph pump in a 33 gal trash can gives a lot of water turbulence.
My tap PH is 7.1 and 24 hrs of aging brings it to 7.5. For fun I measured the PH in the "high turbulent" can at six hrs, and it was 7.8. Left the pump off for an hour and the PH was 7.5.
I think the very high flow turbulence speeds up the aging process at least as far as the PH is concerned and maybe for the other water trace elements. (With my standard process the can PH was 7.3 at 12 hours.)
Anybody else have experience with this?
