I'm trying to figure out what this guy is, He is 1 of the first 3 discus i ever got(before i knew what a quality discus was) at a crummy LFS. He is the only one who has shown any growth, all 3 are stunted and i know that now, but rather than cull them i've been taking good care of them and he's catching up to some of my better quality fish. However, i'm stumped, my guess would be cobalt. but idk. plz help, thanks!
P.S. i got him at about 2" and hes around 4 1/4 now.

What throws me off is the bar on his eye, he doesn't form any bars anywhere else

Ya, i have one of Josies Blue diamonds in the same tank, and they look nothing alike, which is why i was guessing cobalt myself.

Just to add a little more confusion into the discussion, here's examples of my flachen and my cobalt. I'm including both "baby" pics (at 4") and adult pics (at 6"). They continued to grow and colors/patterns weren't complete till they reached 7".

I'm really curious about a couple of things. First, how long have you owned him? Second, the lighting makes a big difference in whether he looks more like a cobalt or a flachen. So in natural light is he more blue, or more ocean greenish colored?

Cobalt then, based on color in natural lighting.

As far as his size, judging from how long you've owned him and how much growth he's exhibited, I wouldn't give up on him yet as far as size goes. Yeah, his eyes are a little big for his size, but not horribly large, and he still looks to be VERY young based on coloration and pectoral fin length.

I'd say he's about a year old, which means that he still has another year to keep growing. Keep feeding him lots of good food, and cross your fingers, ok? He's actually a very pretty fish and I'd love to see him reach 6" at least.

I dont plan on giving up on him at all, i have a few fish that are not "quality" some have a small eye, bent fins, etc. Doesn't mean i am going to treat them any different from my pretty ones. He eats a good varried diet of Josies beefheart mix, fdbw, fdbw with spinach, live brine, and sera pellets. Like all of my discus do.
