Brother, I am so glad to see them using fall protection!

Bill63SG
03-20-2013, 05:29 PM
The fall protection is a PITA.I know its better to have a twisted ankle then fall off a roof.Part of the reason I stopped going up was two ropes to trip over. They actually have these special boots on,that you can velcro different soles on for different conditions.Needless to say,its the "spike" sole when theres snow or ice.

New consruction, thet dont give a sh*t.Slam it down, and it blows off, repair it.And just to be clear,I operate the crane/drive the truck,I dont do roofing. We bring the materials out and stock them on the roof if we can, then the roofers come out and do the roof.I dont just do new construction, but its the only thing going on in the winter.

The fall protection is a PITA.

Better a PITA than DOA. Falls are the #1 cause of fatalities in construction. I too was surprised to see them working in those conditions, but very glad to see the FP. -Don

Looks like a big job Bill. Won't the water from the snow still be on the wood? And they really want you guys to cover over the water trapping in the moisture between layers? Lol

Hope it warms up for you guys soon.

Jeff,I just deliver the product, the roofers are our customers. We shake our heads everytime we see them roofing in the winter. But,it beats being laid-off,but ask me again when its 4 degrees out.

I spent so many summers roofing up in Oswego. My dad does side jobs building decks, roofs, remodeling, you name it when I was a teenager he always put me to work. I didn't get to do the fun stuff all I was there for was to carry the bundles of shingles up the ladder and stack them on the roof. Got good at it I would carry two bundles up the ladder at a time cheaper labor.

Im getting too old for this s**t.One of the coldest winters around here on record. The other driver went to Mexico, and isnt answering his phone.I was to do Jan,,and he was supposed to cover Feb.I geuss I wouldnt have come back to -18 either.Today was almost a balmy 20,so we had work.About 20ft of snow piled in our docks.http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb328/Bill63SG/snow/m_snow002_zpsfbe2e0a6.jpg (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/Bill63SG/media/snow/m_snow002_zpsfbe2e0a6.jpg.html)
Driving thru farm fields,30-40 mph gusts has drift going across the roads.

Bill, you are truly the man. Stay warm if you can and sure good you can stay on the ground.

Ive been staying on the ground for the last 6 years. In this area,Chicago'ish,so far,7th coldest winter in recorded history, and tonight,5th in in snowfall,73inches,so far.
What kinda s@cked,was I was putting some things off, telliing the wife, let me re-phrase,telling my wife,I would get to them during my Feb lay-off.When that didn't happened, weekends have turned into a b@tch. Who turns on an alarm for Sat?
