I am considering buying a used Marineland c-530. It is only a month old. The problem is that the seller put a bunch of Petroleum Jelly on the seals. Now everything in the filter has a film on it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean this canister filter, bio balls, tubing, etc., to make it fish safe?
Thanks

Try vinegar, scrub it and then sun dry it.

just wipe off the excess jelly and call it a day it won't hurt a thing. bleach the rest of the filter as you would any piece of used equipment.

As Rick mention, just wipe it up and that's it

Thanks. Will just give it a good cleaning then. Guess I was just paranoid about getting the film out of the bio-balls & ceramic media.
