Hello.,

Noticed a sudden PH raise.. Usually 7.4/7.6 until last week. Noticed around 8.4 yesterday.. How to react to this situation?

Locals of Chicago suburbs.. anyone came across this? Please advise..

Do you age your water? If you are using straight tap and you have such a big swing, I would recommend to do small 20% water changes twice a day to bring the tank pH up slowly until it is the same as tap.

Do you age your water? Are these readings from the tap? generally my ph from tap is around 7.6 and wont fluctuate much after the aging process. I believe our water here in northwest indiana is supplied from lake michigan just the same as Chicago.

Aging/agitating water 24-30hrs with few drops of prime.. Noticed this PH swing all of a sudden.. And almost 95%+ WC everyday.. Probably will do the PH test again today..

Readings are from the tank after immediate WC. I normally do this way.. Will try to take reading of my aging storage/Tank/Tap separately tonight.. Wondering, is this a spring water chemistry change..

Check the tank pH and aging barrel pH before WC to see if there is a difference.

What brand do you use? My API always gives me false readings. I always have to retest twice. Also buy a high range test kit just in case the low range gives you false reading, then use high range to double check.

Hello PP_GBR, i use the below one..
http://www.petmountain.com/product/aquarium-freshwater-test-kits/11442-107520/api-freshwater-master-test-kit.html?utm_source=googleproductads&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term={keyword}&gclid=CIejmLSamLYCFegWMgodYSkAkA

And i always do the high range PH test.. Since my readings are noticed above 7.4's initially..

The strange thing about my API low range test is if I shake the bottle first, it's off the chart. Then I retest it again using the same low range test bottle, it gives me lower reading. My test kit is good until Dec-2016.

Ok, so here's what I got with the low range...i'll do a high range next. Tap=7.2 Aging Barrel=7.6 Tank=7.6

:) Good point though.. Shake the bottle well before use..

that would make sense after it has been degased, so if doing big WC tank should read 7.4 to 7.6

High range readings are pretty much the same....i'd retest when you get a chance Allwin.

If they adding something to your water for the spring blend, you should also test your nitrates/nitrites as well. Also check with your township when they will plan on doing your first hydron flush. This will definately effect your tap water supply for a couple days.

Are you sure nothing fell into your aging barrel? Just to be sure.
