Hey all
I'm new to here from Australia and have been keeping discus for around 6 months
I have 2 in a 50cm cube yes it my be small but I now have a bigger tank

My questions are as follows
I'm picking up the new tank next week, it's a 4x2x2
Im wondering that if I fill up the tank and get a similar ph after a few days can I transfer discus into it?
If I do the above procedure I would be putting the filter media on the current tank into the new canister and letting it run( -in essence doing a 100% water change)
Would this work?

Regards
Ben

Welcome

U should use half of the old media in the new filter and add some extra bacteria with the start of the new tank. Keep an eye on the NO2 just to make sure
This way u can keep the fish in the old tank till the new tank runs well

If your aged water pH is stable and your using established filter media, just put them in. Unless I'm missing something, The only thing that's changing is the volume of water, not the stocking density.

All I will be doing is putting in substrate driftwood and plants in the new tank on day 1 and put established filter media into the new canister I'll be using for this setup, I was hoping that after 2-3 days that I could move the 2 discus across and let them settle in before I get another 8-10 more

No need to wait to move what you already have. The new discus should be quarantined but that's another thread all together.

Since you're using a mature filter in the new tank the bacteria bed will continue to break down harmful waste.

Ok, so if ph temp a're the same as the current tank and there's no ammonia or nitrite and minimal nitrate I can pretty much transfer the discus on the same day?
Thanks for all your help and advice chad, I will be quarantining the new additions before they get put in
