Took a drive out to lockport just to be disappointed by the quality of these fish.

What do you think? Any worth buying? Any have a chance to grow?

Not exactly what this section is for, but since you asked....I would not buy anything from them. The fish may have been great when they arrived but they do not look like they have had the best care in the world. I think you could get some and they would probably recover to a degree, but never to their full potential. I would only buy from another hobbyist or one of the sponsors.

The video was more for show. You could tell that they order decent fish, but then just don't take good care of them. They guy working said they had that batch close to a month and that they get fed once a day. And they were charging 50 for the small and 70 for the bigger ones.

Is that from pets plus in lockport? You won't find good quality stock in fish stores in western NY, even the best (the fish place) had pretty awful discus last I was there.

To skinny and some with very big eyes, no thank you

For good quality fish, buy directly from a good breeder

Yep. Pets Plus. Jake has come along way at the fish place. Lately he has some good looking juveniles and they sell quick. The rest of the stores in the area not so much.

Petsplus used to be a really cool place to visit (from a boy's perspective 25 or so year ago). It still has some neat creatures but they are usually in rough shape. It was cool growing up in north tonawanda and riding my bike to the fish place every day starting off when it was just one room in that building and was owned by Pete (not sure if he sold it or not). Last time I was there the middle "big freshwater fish" room was in rough shape. I'll be back visiting in the summer.

Yes the store in Lockport was in trouble not too long ago actually its happened more than once.I thought they were shut down but I guess not. I like the fish place though. I believe Pete sold it to his brother but not positive. There's a place in Amherst that used to sell awful looking discus. I think they stopped carrying them though thankfully. Its a shame we really don't have any great Lfs. I only buy from sponsors here.I'm glad I found this forum a long time ago.

Yeah it was sad. They have a lot of selection, but it seems not kept up well. Undermanned. Underfed.

That's just sad.

I've culled discus in better shape than most of the ones in that video.

Yeah! Its really sad. I had two aquariums when I was in Buffalo, and I had to rely on Petsmart and Petco before Markheim. Those were the only ones easily accessible to a UB student without a car.

The fish place in north tondowanda gets theirs from Hans now. I stopped there today. Some nice looking fish they just got yesterday. I was tempted.

Get direct from Hans. They were put in the LFS tanks, who knows what else is in the tanks? If you are interested in the LFS ask how they take care of their Discus.

Your kidding! I did get mine directly from Hans and when I need more I'll do so again. His shipping prices are great anyway but I still need to go have a peek!

I'm actually getting some albino golds from Kenny's. The fish the lfs had from Hans were very nice looking though.

It's nice to know the fish place is stepping up their discus game. Hopefully they don't let them waste away
