trying to find out how soft my water is? i got a (TDS) water tester and it reads 438ppm..is that good? very new at this.. not sure what i am doing..lol.can any one tell me what that is??:confused:

438 isn't too good for Discus. With my breeders I have them in 100ppm - 60ppm and my other Discus tanks are 200 - 300. the lower the number the softer / less solids in the water. But I don't try and go below 50ppm as they still need some minerals ect to be healthy

438 is very high and hard water. Is this out of your tap?

yes it is, well water..can i put something just in my tank to soften the water..i have a 220gal. tank..

It's high but it'll work. My water in the summer is in the 400s. You likely won't have successful spawns in water like this but you can grow out and house adults in it! :)
