View Full Version : extremely picky eaters

about 3 weeks ago i picked up 5 discus, 2-3inch diameter, and for the longest time they did not eat anything. just this past saturday they ate hakari brine shrimp. ive read on here that its better to feed them what they'll eat, even if its considered a treat, than nothing at all.

the problem now is that they wont even go for Angel+ premium flakes. the moment the flake touches their mouth they spit it out. ive tried soaking it in garlic as well as adding flakes to the brine shrimp when i feed so its a shrimp/flake slurry and without fail they ALWAYS go for the shrimp and spit the flakes out.

they do eat beef heart but so little im afraid that its not going to be sufficient. im wanting to get them on flakes and pellets...is there any other way to transition from frozen to a dry staple other than starving them for a day or two?

they JUST started eating 3-4 days ago and i dont want them to get addicted to frozen =( they might already be addicted

they look and seem healthy enough for not eating for 2-3 weeks and only feeding on brine shrimp for the past 3 days. any advice?

Hmm? What's the temp in your aquarium? Who did you buy them from and what was their feeding regimen? How many wc's do you perform? According to Al (a.k.a brewmaster) try not to introduce to many foods at once.

temp is 88, i feed 3-4 times a day from 2-9pm but sometimes from 11-9pm if im home that day. 1wc a week 2 if i have time, i do 50-60% each wc. i got the discus from a breeder that got his fish from hans.

i think trying to introduce a flake on top of brine shrimp is hardly to many...

i tried editing my posts but for some reason the newer posts arent showing...they've all disappeared
