The most natural thing for mature discus to do is spawn. Assuming that they are old enough look at nutrition, and overall health. Even if your water is hard they will spawn. We will need some details. How big is the tank, how often do you change water, what are you feeding, age of the fish, etc...

You can also try the dry to wet simulation. I learned about it in this thread:

There are lots of tricks that can help but you have to have the primary based covered first.

The advice you receive from John "Stud Muffin" Nicholson will be some of the best you can get. A man truly dedicated to his passion.

Another stimulant to breeding is live foods such as blackworms. But you got some real good advice here. Hope they spawn soon for you.

Hi John,

I have around 20 fish in a 80 gallon tank, I change 70% water at least every second day...I feed them 80% goat heart mix and 20% tetra bits. Age not really sure :( as I bought them @3-4" ht and they have definitely grown in size. I also add regular medication the typical blue/yellow general aids, rock salt, Epsom salt, PP. I use canister filter...

Please let me know if you need any additional information

thanks

This is not a good practice, meds should only be used when there is an issue, not as a preventative. Should not be any need to add salt on a regular basis either, only lots of good clean water.

One of the best ways to get young fish interested in spawning is to have them see (preferably in the same tank if possible) another pair spawning.

While my breeding experience is limited to four batches of fry common sense indicates to me that 20 adult discus in a 80 gallon space is way too many fish and is not conducive to pairing off/breeding. Not sure how fish kept in these conditions remain healthy with every other day water changes. Not trying to be harsh here Vikrantm1 but if you wish to breed some changes are in order here.

Both thought above are correct. Stop the meds and salt.. Get another tank and split the fish into 2 groups of 10.

I have 7 adult discus in a 80g tank and I consider that to be the limit. As Pat and John said, the fish need more room (the general rule of thumb is 10g per adult discus). You donīt need a big group to get pairs. I got two confirmed pairs among the 7 adult discus I have.

Haha. I think what he meant is that 10 are adults out of 20.

Lol! Candle lit dinner, two glasses of spirulina wine and beef heart tar tar. Jk! I wish I had a set up so that I can breed my albino cobalts, my female is always laying eggs but they just end up eating them.

Thanks all for your inputs, i was told by a breeder in India that i should put some or the other medicine every day as a preventive measure, did he tell me because of the quantity of fish i have?
Yes i am planning to split the tank into two.
